Saturn June 21st

Post by TheButcher »

Here is Saturn on June 21st.

And let me tell you, it was one of the worst nights for me imaging but luckily in the end I went back to my old Dob skills and got some good results.

I finally had a perfect night with a 4 out of 5 seeing and planned to do Another Jupiter Animation with IO popping out from the back, Europa a transit and its shadow and Ganymede at the end being eclipsed. Well time came when I was ready to start when Europa's Shadow started to enter. Then BAM, my EQ6-R Pro DEC was not moving but motor running. To make a long story short a metal retaining washer fell off and knocked the belt off. I opened up the gear hole for it and put it back on (not knowing there should of been a retaining washer on there) It fell off again. But now it was 3 am and still trying to figure out to call it quits or just use the RA. So I manually aimed it at Jupiter (still need to process them) but I also Got Saturn since it was higher up by the time I could image it. So I basically imaged like I did with my push dob and let it drift then hit the RA button to move it back and manually knudge the DEC from time to time. So the night was not a total loss in the end.

I was able to capture about 15,000 frames per 90 seconds with myC-11 and ZWO 385mc. And below is one of the captures that I did. I stacked 7% in Autostakert then went to Reistax for a little tweak then photoshop for some more tweaks.

As for the mount, I had to ship it back to Skywatcher (they insisted) for repair with a 4 week turnaround time. :x I didn't think I could handle that with the planets approaching and Summer Nebulas and how knows how much longer it could be with the COVID. So I have 3 Scopes and no mount. So today I managed to get enough funds by selling off some equipment 2 of my Favorite scopes :( and convinced my CFO to let me get a new mount and would sell that one when it returned (Plus it was my Birthday today so it was a great time to ask lol). So I ended up getting an iOptron70 today. Now I just need to get more funds for the tripod and hopefully I will be back up in action within a week or so. Untill them I am gona bore you with my All Sky Cam time lapses :)

Anyway here is Saturn with aC-11, ZWO385mc and 1.5x Antares Barlow with Baader M & S glow filter.
