Getting back to telescope tatts and themed telescopes. I think that a GREAT one would be a creative reinterpretation of Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth's Smelloscope from the TV series FUTURAMA.
A base for the nose piece could be made from a 35mm film can. Don't they fit in focusers?
A sign would have to be on the displayed telescope telling people not to try to use it.

I have heard on a couple of occasions that things in space do smell. There was that astronaut that said space smell like brunt steak and then the Apollo astronauts said that the moon's dust had a smell to it.

One of either Celestron's or Orion's travel scopes could probably be used to make excellent Smelloscope that would be closer to being in proportion and just think if you could make or get a figurine of Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth to go with it.

The 70mm Travel Scopes have the best clunky look to them.
The minimum height of the tripod is 22" so it might have to be put on a smaller tripod.
Here is a 6 inch bendable and poseable Professor Farnsworth

I just placed an order for some decals for my telescopes. I could not get exactly what I wanted but hopefully they all work out well. I ordered 2 of the same for my 114mm reflector and I ordered a different design one that I don't know the size of that is a gamble.

Maybe we should add that if you wrap your scope in some kind of insulating material, you'll change the thermal characteristics (if it matters). I've seen pics of OTAs tricked out with various decals and even the occasional bumper sticker.

Something similar happened to me. About 10 years ago, Gene Kranz, former Flight Director at NASA, was speaking at the Seattle Museum of Flight. After the talk, there was a queue to get an autograph or purchase his book (with an autograph) and get a picture with him. I had visited Kennedy Space Center the year before and had bought a polo shirt with the NASA logo on it and had worn it that day. When it was my turn to get my book and autograph from Mr. Kranz, HE and his wife both asked me where I worked at NASA. I sheepishly had to tell them the truth that I was just a tourist at KSC the year before.

Here are the stickers that I got so far. The bottom single one I like better but it was a gamble when I ordered it because they didn't say what size it was. Now I have to decide which to go with.

I like the bottom one better but I am going to put the top ones on my telescope because I already have them and I can't afford to got another one like the bottom one. When I'm done changing the water in my aquariums today maybe I'll try putting the stickers on my telescope.
Right now it looks like there are several good nights coming up. Hopefully I can get a photo of it set up with the stickers on it.

I just put the stickers on my telescope. I always ask myself after I finish doing something. "Is it better than it was before?" As far as looks goes I have to say yes.

This got me thinking about decorating my scope. Just spotted a decal with a line from Firefly: "You can't take the sky from me"

American Science and Surplus (http://sciplus.com) sells some awesome double sided sticky tape about 6 inches wide and I have no idea how long on a roll. This stuff will stick to just about anything. I use it for a lot of stuff, including bumper stickers that won't.

My daughter made me some T-shirts with a little fat rocket with a dashed line (with a loop in it) to a heavily cratered moon. The caption reads "Don't tell me the sky is the limit when there are footprints on the moon" . I love those shirts!

I get my wardrobe at Costco (jeans for $13) and astronomy conferences (T shirts). The RTMC has great vendors, I bought an M13 T shirt and an Apollo 13 one (Failure is not an option). I can't find a link online but the vendor has good quality cotton T shirts and great prints on them.

Even a Halloween decoration... My wife put this on one of my scopes about 3 years ago now. Just a window decal, but it's been there ever since. I think it suits it. Rat bike, rat scope...

In 2012, I ran a solar eclipse tour for 120 people in Cairns on the Great Barrier Reef. I lifted the background graphic from MS word clip art and turned it into an eclipse tee shirt for participants.
