This is a thread for all of us to post pictures of asterisms, the commonly known ones and the newly discovered ones.

Christmas Goose.png
This is a screenshot from Stellarium that I embellished in Paint to show the Christmass Goose.
I learned about this asterism in the book Binocular Highlights by Gary Seronik. It is on page 18.
The asterism is in the star cluster just next to Alpha Persei.
It makes me think of this quote from my favorite author "Bloodthirsty ducks look on in vengeance spewing forth vial opinionated accusation while mockingbirds listen".

Cheshire Cat.png
This is a Stellarium screenshot that I embellished in Paint to show the Cheshire Cat asterism that is in AURIGA. It is probably more commonly known as the Smiley Face which is its more simplified version.

Mini-Cassiopeia.png
This is a Stellarium screenshot that I did NOT embellish in Paint because I didn't think that it needed it. This shows Mini-CASSIOPEIA which is in DRACO. As you can see in the screenshot it is about one degree away from Chi Dra (Alahakan).
At this time I know of three different sizes of CASSIOPEIA asterisms. There is the original CASSIOPEIA asterism, then there is LACERTA which I believe is also called Little-CASSIOPEIA, then there is this one Mini-CASSIOPEIA.
I viewed Mini-CASSIOPEIA on 2019, March 13, Wednesday with my BUSHNELL 10X50 Legacy WP Binoculars. This is the star hop that I used Kochab / Beta UMi > Eta UMi > Keep going straight for about 8 degrees to Chi Dra > About 1 degree more to Mini-CASSIOPEIA .

There was a typo. A letter is missing. The quote should be "Bloodthirsty ducks look on in vengeance spewing forth vial opinionated accusations while mockingbirds listen".

Should I repost some of the many faces of Mel 111 here that I have already posted in another thread?

You are welcome Michael :)
I hope that it is something I can continue doing.

Hi Donald,

This is an interesting thread. Here is an article I found a few years back showing the author's favorite asterisms. See the attachment.

Cheers,

I have never seen it referred to as the Cheshire Cat, I will have to remember that one :)

Just incase if anyone is unaware, if you click on the images they will expand to give you a much better view.

Very cool! It will be fun to include some of these during outreach sessions.

Here is a Stellarium screenshot of the constellation SAGITTA. It can fit into the Field Of View of some binoculars.

I was just looking at M6 and I might be able to assemble the butterfly.
I started off by looking at M7 but haven't came up with a good shape in it yet.

Thank you, Donald. I didn't mean I was planning to take your images to use! That would have been rather presumptuous of me. I simply meant that when we have our public outreach events, I might be able to point out some of the asterisms you have mentioned.

You may want to put your name on images you create, although I'm not sure if you can copyright images based on screenshots from a program like Stellarium. Maybe it's time for some astrophotography of your own!

This one is always a staple in my outrech repertoire when it is available.
Thank you Seer.
