Some Sun after last night's weather

#1

Post by Thefatkitty »

Hey all, hope you're well :D

Kind of a quick post here, not my usual drawn-out ramblings (Yay!!)

Last night the weather went from me taking solar pics at about 2PM to one of the best thunderstorms I've seen starting about 7PM. Wow, the skies turned green for some time and the lightning lit up the sky on several occasions. North and west of me there were two confirmed tornado touchdowns, and a waterspout over lake Huron. I'm about 80K (~50 miles) from the tornado area, but we had downed trees and roads strewn with debris, not to mention some major flooding. Here's a news repot about all that.

At least there was no one hurt. Still, I got up at 3:30 AM as I knew my usual route would be a challenge, and sure enough it was. At one point this morning, I had to go 20km's (12 miles) out of my way due to a large maple tree lying across the road. I tried to take some pics, but for whatever reason the camera on my phone just locks up whenever I try to use it :(

At least my DSLR still works :D I got in at the late (for me) hour of 3:30 PM. Winds were still high, but it certainly cleared the skies. Time for some Solar!

And here is today's Sun, shot with my C80-HD, Baader solar film, and Canon EOS 550D (T2i) at 1/250th sec exp at ISO 100. The best 33% out of 20 shots, processed with PIPP, AS3, ImPPG and some love in PS 2020 with the camera Raw filter:

So what are we looking at here? Annotations are good :D

And that is it for me today. Up early again tomorrow, 110km's (70 miles) to my first call. I'm on personal leave next week from work; I need some down time due to a major event that happened lately. My solar work recently has been a good distraction :D Hopefully it continues. And maybe one night it will be clear and I can get some night-time viewing into the mix!

For those of you that I owe a PM to, please bear with me. Family first, my on-line family second... :D

All the best and we all wish you a good night!
Mark
