Solar Cycle 25 is really ramping up!!

Post by Thefatkitty »

Hey again all :D

My weather was supposed to be rain and clouds for today, but after 10 this morning that all went away. Nice.

Yesterday I caught a literal explosion of forming sunspots. As of today, they've all been numbered. I found it curious that AR2864 was reassigned to another spot... Check out Spaceweather.com for September 4th and September 5th; you'll see what I mean :D

Regardless, I had a window at just after 2PM and took 20 shots with my C80-HD, Baader solar film and Canon EOS 550D. I aligned them with PIPP, stacked with AS3, some enhancement with ImPPG, and a bit of final tweaking in PS 2020 with the Camera Raw filter.

Sarah says Hey all, she's been sitting here watching me process this, and as well we've been listening to and cranked up the Smashing Pumpkins, the Cranberries, Muse, Linken Park...

We're 39 years apart, yet so close together in so many ways :D

Ok, dinner is going to be ready soon, so here's our take on ol' Sol:

I hope you all have a good night and all the best from us :D

Hi Mark. A wonderful solar image in white light. Old Sol is really heating up now with lots of new sunspots forming. Here is the latest active region map from Raben Systems:

Excellent Mark, this Solar cycle is the first for me. All this time before I got into Solar imaging, I was wondering why I was never seeing any sunspots the past few years when I had a white solar filter for one of my scopes. I thought it was defective lol

 Yeah, the past few years have been dull, no wonder you thought it was defective! 2018 - 2020 was solar minimum, even the spots that did happen weren't much to look at. But starting in May of this year, it seemed there was some activity coming back.
Now we have ~11 years of activity to look forward to!

All the best,
Mark
