'ol Sol between thunderstorms

Post by Thefatkitty »

Hi again all :D

Had a long day today. Up at 4AM, on the road at 5, and in Fort Erie (Niagara, Ontario region) at 6:30. Again, trying to beat the heat, and by the time it really started with the humidity just before noon I was on my way home.

From that area, I head north and then east to get home. Thunderstorms were predicted this morning for the afternoon. I was driving north, and could see the dark sky approaching from the north and east. Coming off the Skyway Bridge, the heavens opened up with an absolute deluge of water

A drive that normally takes me an hour from the bridge was now almost two, thanks to various accidents as a result of the downpour. Thankfully, none of them involved me.

Parked the truck at just after 3PM. Said Hi to the girls, fed the happy-you're-home cat, cracked a beer and went outside. The sky was still cloudy and there was still a lot of haze. Well, let's take a chance it clears up. I brought out my C80-HD, mounted it on my CG4 and waited.

I have patience and a laid-back personality. Two things that help in waiting for a break in the clouds, along with other things in life :)

At about 4:30 and another beer later, I could see it maybe coming:
IMG_1362s.JPG

Yeah, just enough. I took 60 shots in rapid succession with my Canon 550D at ISO 100 and 1/250th sec exp in monochrome with the scope. I literally had a hazy two minute window for this, then the rain started again.

AR2860 is on the bottom left, AR2859 is above it to the right, and above that, if you squint, there's another spot forming; AR2861? Also, to the bottom right, I can see another one...

Well my friends, that's it for me. 8:30 here, still raining, and 4AM once again comes early tomorrow. At least it's Friday!

Have a good night/day and all the best,
Mark

Marshall my friend, thanks for the compliments. I find it interesting that the photo I have from Thurday from the bottom right of the disc was only identified as of today being AR2862. Why the day amd change delay?
Regardless, it's nice to see 'ol Sol in Solar cycle 25. Leave it to me to get a white-light solar filter 3 years ago at the end of cycle 24

Hope you and Sheri are good and all the best from us,
Mark
