Mike, those are fantastic! I'm guessing the top two are AR2833? I'm amazed at the detail. The last shot with the flares is really impressive too!

Not knowing much about HA, I'm wondering how you got all three with the same scope; looks like two different wavelengths from what I understand about this. Is that a result of "tuning" the Etalon?

Apologies for my ignorance on this and the questions... :D

All the best,
Mark

"The Hankmeister" Celestron 8SE, orange tube Vixen made C80, CG4, AZ-EQ5 and SolarQuest mounts.

Thank you Mark for your comments , Nobody is ignorant , I learned about Ha the same way as anybody else . The short answer to your question is that the scope was "tuned" the same for all of the images but the camera settings were changed for the prom shot . Changing the tuning would have brightened up the prom but I would have lost the surface . I was using a lazy approach and combined the prom and surface into the same capture by raising the exposure and gamma settings in the camera . Many solar imagers will take 2 separate captures , one tuned to the surface and one tuned to the proms and combine them later in P/S .
You are definitely welcome to stop by anytime and see how all this Ha gear works . My primary scopes are PST modded scopes and I have not said too much about them only because I am not sure if this forum would welcome discussion on PST mods . I would be happy to start a thread on the topic if there is interest and no objections .

Thank you Jeff , some sites do not welcome discussion about solar mods because they can be dangerous if not properly done , I just want to be sure that the admin is ok with it first .

Sorry Mark I should have identified the AR , it is indeed 2833 .

Here is brighter shot of the prom with the surface blown out . I could have combined it into a surface shot but my goal was to combine everything into one capture .

Oh, I can understand about mods, makes total sense.

But any techniques you want to share would be cool.

Sure I have nothing to hide , I will put something in the discussion area . I have not said too much because my equipment and methods are dated by today's standards .

Hi Mike. A really fantastic solar image of AR2833, the surface granularity, and also the excellent prominence. Thanks for sharing this with us on here Mike, and congratulations on winning the TSS APOD Award today.

Thank you Gordon for selecting my image for today's APOD and also a thank you to everyone else for your comments .

Excellent images and I'm quite sure folks would be interested in your mods!

I have received PM from Gordon and because of possible implications regarding discussing modifying solar scopes he requested that I not start a discussion on building them and I do not want to cause any issues for the forum . I do plan to make a post about my journey down the solar rabbit hole and share what I have learned about imaging Ha solar . My primary imaging scopes are modded and I can describe what they are and why I choose to use them but will have to stay away from any specifics on how to actually build one .

Thanks again for the comments everyone !
