AR2833 with a 5” APO

#1

Post by Dyno05 »

I had a few minutes today to test an adaptor I made to fit a C8 solar filter onto an ED127 this afternoon. Views were great, and I was quite surprised that I could see surface granulation through the eyepiece. It showed up in the photos too. Here’s a single image taken with a Canon T3i at iso 200 and 1/400th.
Thanks for looking.

Great shot. I haven't thrown my white-light filter on my ED127 since the August 2017 solar eclipse. I need to pull it out again one of these days but these 110° temps are tough right now.

That came out really nice, especially for a single shot! A stack of those would really bring out the detail I bet.

Nicely done and all the best,
Mark

Hello Dana. A superb image of AR2833 and you did catch a lot surface granularity too. Thanks for sharing this capture with us Dana, and keep up the great solar work.

It was an explore scientific 127ed with a Canon T3i installed in the focuser with a T ring and field flattener. I don’t know what the magnification would have been. It was a focal length of 950mm.

It is a lovely clear sharp disc this. Good focus and optics.
Mentored by Keith, Mike, John and Bill. (The old guard) and forever grateful.
PST mod stage 2 - Quark on extended loan and yet to repay with value ;)
Camera- ASi 174 mono no tilt required.
BF10,15,30 straight through with baader ffc. (looking to replace the rusted IFT on 10 + 15 with a maier replacement)
Lots of nighttime scopes and stuff but focus on the sun.
