Sunrise Eclipse Composite
I had my sights set on photographing Thursday's solar eclipse more than a year ago. The narrow path for viewing the annular eclipse was *only* a 14-hour drive away. No problem. We had campgrounds booked ahead of time. But then the covid lockdown in Ontario threw a monkey wrench into our plan and we saw the provincial park opening date kept getting pushed back, until our reservation got cancelled altogether. Oh well, so much for planning ahead. As it turned out, it’s a rainy day on Thursday at the provincial park. I really can’t complain when covid helped make the right decision for me!
We ended up shooting the eclipse at our favourite local spot which is a 20 minutes' drive away. It does not have a clear view to the horizon and we knew we’d miss out on the first 13 minutes of the show including the moment of maximum eclipse, but in exchange we knew we’d love the foreground.
The solar images were taken with a solar filter 4 minutes apart. The sky and lone tree background was taken with no filter, just before the sun cleared the ridge. All the images were taken at the same camera position and manually aligned and blended in Photoshop.
