AR 2824 Sunspot on May 23rd

#1

Post by TheButcher »

Hey all,

I just had first light with my new Acro Scope. I ended up getting the Celestron Omni 120 XLT. So this image is the first light of it. Now I got to learn more about sunspots, but I think this is AR 2824? If it is not then can a mod please change subject. :)

Anyway, the seeing was below average and windy and a mix of sun and clouds but wanted to try it out anyway since I just got it yesterday. I took it around 3pm at my nearby park (and as usual a small crowd shows up wondering what I am doing). I then explain and waist imaging time lol. But today was more of testing the scope out and aligning the Telvue Sol Searcher soI didn't have time to play & Learn with the tunning yet, but will next time out.

Captured with Fire Capture and then thrown into AS3 then Registax then off to PScc. I used (10 ms) for 10 seconds and I think the gain was at 260.

Equipment
Celestron Omni 120 XLT
iOptron ZEQ25 Mount
174mm
Daystar Quark Chromoshere
Telvue Sol Searcher Finder.

Thanks for Looking :)

I think it's AR2824, not 2822.
Great shot though!

I usually check Spaceweather.com to confirm AR #'s right after or before I do an imaging session.
https://www.spaceweather.com/
Click on the sun image in the upper left column and it will give you a full-screen image with AR #'s superimposed over the shot. That image is updated every 2 or 4 hours I believe.

That is a really good picture! Great detail and color too; and not over processed. That scope seems to work well with the Daystar, congrats on the new scope as well!

Astrobee is much like myself; Spaceweather.com to see what's up, literally.

Fun times in the park too, I'll bet you had a lot of curious people around. Ah, just call it outreach... :D

Good for you on getting that; I had no luck today with any clarity. Look forward to more of your pictures!

All the best,
Mark

That came out very well!
Good that you could get it so quickly and be out imaging so soon with it :)

That's a very nice image and the colouration is fantastic.
Mentored by Keith, Mike, John and Bill. (The old guard) and forever grateful.

Spending obscene amounts of money building a big fracking solar telescope.
(Trying my best not to curse or swear :) )

Hi TB. What a wonderful solar image with the new gear. I got thrown off too at first because according to Raben Systems Solar Maps (which I use) AR2822 was on the solar far side at that time. Here is another useful resource for you at:
https://www.raben.com/maps/date/
You really have a beautiful shot and I love the color, granularity, plages, and sunspot details. And I really enjoyed the photo of your setup. Thanks for sharing this capture with us TB, and keep up the great work.

Thanks Mak and all :)

I just bookmarked that site, thanks for the link. Now, I just hope my weather clears up so I can catch it again near the limb. Still got a few more days left of rain/clouds.
