The weather here has gone from way below freezing to 3C (~38F) today, with warmer temperatures expected through next week. Today started off cloudy and cold through the morning, then warmed up in the afternoon and the haze really settled in.
However, at just after 4PM, a sudden cold front came through and the sky started to clear, sort of... I knew that AR2804 had expanded quite a bit in the last 24 hours, and AR2805 was starting to form; though it would be hard to see.
I went and got my Baader solar filter from downstairs, put it on my C80-HD that was at the back door with my Canon 550D (T2i) already in it, and out I went.
By this time it was 4:15 and the Sun was about 15 degrees above the horizon. Worse still, I took the shots with the Sun shining through the "fork" in my backyard tree. The only spot with level ground; still too much snow and ice here.
This is the best out of way too many shots at different ISO's and exposures. It turned out ISO 100 and 1/200th sec exp was the best; I should have went even higher on the exposure. ISO 200 and 1/800th sec exp is what I normally shoot the Sun at, but that's in prime conditions with ol' Sol right overhead. You live, you learn.
And here is all of that. 10 of the best(!) images stacked, processed with PIPP, AS3, and ImPPG:
AR2804 is very evident, but as for AR2805 it's hard to see. This is a crop from the full sized processed image, I hope you can see it:
Well, that's all I've got. Probably one of the worst images I've ever gotten on the Solar part of it all. It was a bear to process as well, but I'm happy I finally got to see the Sun in quite some time.
I actually checked, and the last time I had a clear day for the Sun was
Good sunny times. Of course, now it's cloudy, though I might get a break tomorrow night. I can hope...!!
Thanks for reading and all the best,
