probably the worst milkyway photo ever?

5-second ISO 1600 handheld F3.5 IS II 18mm APSC canon heavily processed photo of the milkyway in my very bright light polluted skies.

its just barely visible. and the stars are duplicated and blurry. quite noisy too

couldn't get out tripod. the plastic thingy that holds the camera broke. so i need a new one.

The well known grey tape can temporarily hold your camera on the tripod?

Nope the plastic thing that holds the camera completely broke off. theres nothing to "tape" the camera to anymore. the entire chunk of plastic platform that holds the camera broke off from its hinge and its a goner. no amount of glueing would fix it.
i need a new tripod

Not an AP person here but I'm impressed with your result considering you handheld the camera for a looooong five seconds.

That's not bad for a 5 second exposure!

You have a nice wide chunk of unobstructed sky in this direction. You will be able to get some decent results from it once you get a new tripod!

Actually there was a car in the photo. but i cropped it out before starting to process the image.
tons of bright glare at the edges of the car from streetlights just behind it. glaring so brightly.. Camera aimed up somewhat.

I haven't really got any good open sky in many areas without streetlights right in the way. trees buildings powerlines or cars in the way

so I had to just deal with it.

Thanks I guess! its not easy doing a long exposure without a tripod. and even worse when theres so much light pollution.

Lots of folks have said that...

Your image is recognizable. That is a good beginning.

I often run my camera with no tripod.

I prop the camera against something aiming in the general direction of the sky I want with the exposure set. My camera has the ability to delay the shot so I set the delay for 10 sec. This way I can push the shutter button and the Camera has time to settle before the shutter is fired.

I dont have enough ground clearance to get over the vehicles and trees/buildings for that. i need to at least have it at shoulder height to get a useful image. and even then there can still be stuff in the way.
