River of Stars repercharge

#1

Post by OzEclipse »

During my nightscape event on Saturday 31 August the weather forecast was for low cloud / fog forming at 2am. At 1:34 right on schedule, in she came.

This first photo was shot a week ago on August 24 while I was scouting locations. It was a little noisy - a combination of a short exposure and high ISO.

So I decided to separate land and sky and capture longer with a lower ISO. I captured the stars with an ISO1600, 3 minute f2.8 exposure tracking using ASTROTRACE, the Pentax tracking system that uses the image stabilisation sensor to track the stars and just minutes later, the fog came in and formed along the left bank. I turned off the ASTROTRACER and captured the landscape with an ISO1600, 4 minute, f2.8 exposure then blended sky and land in Photoshop.

Wonderful image Joe! 😊

There is another member who posted recently who uses this camera. Very interesting tool. I had never heard of this before.

Thank you for sharing your fine work and technical secrets, Joe.
