The weather cooperated on Saturday night for "Murrumbidgee Midnight Madness," a nightscape photography event I ran for the Photoaccess Art Centre here in Canberra.
We only had a few people enrol.
With the limit of visibility 600-1000km south of my location, a visible display was out of the question. However from a location with a very dark southern horizon I captured this faint auroral glow on Saturday August 31 at midnight. Pentax K1, Samyang 14mm f2.8, 65s ISO1600 f2.8. Image was tracked using Pentax ASTROTRACE.

Thanks for your comment. I used camera on tripod, no equatorial mount, but activated the camera's ASTROTRACER function to track. Camera uses the GPS, tilt sensors and the in-camera image stabiliser to work out where it's pointing move the sensor to minimise star motion. Pointing south, there was less movement to correct so the function has done a decent job. It's a single exposure so if If you look closely, you'll see a little blur on the landscape.
