My Aurora Dream come true!

#1

Post by MartinF »

I don´t know what to say... it was just one of the most magical nights! Last friday I suddenly became aware that the conditions for aurora (northern lights) were very promising. It was about 10 pm and I was planning on watching a film with my wife but suddenly the plans were changed :D

I rushed out to see if I could catch some of the beauty of the skies and oh boy, did I ever... 3265 images for timelapse as well as some filmed material and some of the best aurora photos I have taken.

I have put it all together in this video, I really hope you will enjoy it with me :Astronomer1: It is one of those nights I will remember for the rest of my life!

What a wonderful experience Martin and brilliant photography too.

Thank you for sharing that with us.

Seeing the Northern Lights is also on my wish list, but I don't know when Sophia and I will be in a situation to make that happen though.

I´m not sure where your location is (how far north), but last friday it was so powerful it could be seen with the naked eye even far south in Sweden. So there might be occasions when you can see it where you live. Unless it is very light polluted.

We live in the New Forest (in the south of England) which has Bortle 4 skies. The location is rural, and the only minimal light pollution is in the small villages which are scattered throughout the whole of the New Forest.

OK, that´s quite a bit further south. You´ll just have to save up for a trip to northern Norway or something. Or Iceland, that´s on my bucket list :)

Congratulations on finally catching the aurora close to home. Wonderful video.
I miss not watching them on a regular basis, I have not seen them since leaving Canada in 2019.

Spectacular images Martin. Thank you for putting them into a vid and then sharing that with us. Living in the northern US I, on rare occasions, also get the Aurora and to help me stay up-to-date on Aurora news and forecasts, I use this app.

Sorry , no words for how wonderful that is. I did have a once in a lifetime sighting (for me anyways) of the Southern Aurora early on morning in 1983, when flying in South Eastern mainland Australia - nothing like your experience.
