The Milky Way in the White Mountains

#1

Post by Dyno05 »

I got my first Milky Way shot last night while visiting the White Mountains area in New Hampshire. I believe it’s a Bortle 2 sky. Absolutely amazing. Anyways, the weather wasn’t cooperating every night I was there but the clouds did part long enough for me to get this one almost cloud free picture. I had it originally framed with the Milky Way between the two mountains but by the time the clouds lifted it had moved. It is a single 108” exposure with a Canon T3i and kit 18-55mm lens at 18mm and F3.5.
Mounted on my AVX mount.

That is a lovely image in a beautiful area. Last time I was there was in February, our pre-covid mini vacation. Much colder then, especially at 4000' up Mt. Washington :)

Bob

We love it up there! We’ve been up there 5 times so far. Mostly in the summer and once in the winter.

Wonderful! Congratulations on the APOD.

I'not sure if I remember this correctly, but I believe that the free stacking software Sequator can give you a foreground that isn't smeared. ... Yes, found it:

Thank you but this isn’t stacked. It’s a single frame, so there’s no way around the smeared foreground.

That is a beautiful image of a beautiful scene. Very nicely done. I don't know what your image would have looked like if you framed it differently. But I love the framing that you used.

And congrats on the award!
