Lucky Bootid Capture

#1

Post by jrkirkham »

Major meteor showers (class I) are among my favorite targets. I will wait with great expectations and plan for months for one of these. I usually greet the minor (class II) showers with a yawn. I know they are out there, but I'm not going to go out of my way to look for them. I am not even aware of the variable (class III) sprinkles, if and when they actually do occur.

A few weeks ago my son, daughter, and granddaughter spent the night with me in my observatory. During the early hours of the morning my daughter and I spent some time with light painting and Milky Way shots. At just about 3:00 AM (the perfect time) we were shooting a small road in the dark. We were facing Bootes (the perfect direction), and snapped the shutter just as a Bootid flew past. How lucky is that?

So here is my one and only ever Bootid.

Sweet. Your image reminds me of the Glenn Campbell song, "Wichita Lineman." Would make a great album cover for some band.
