Those thin crescent lunar images are intriguing. Maybe one night, I can pull away from a dso to get a few dslr snaps. No video stuff, just a few snaps.
Btw, do you use a bright star/batinov mask/ nina to focus? Like Henry said, your focus is definitely tack sharp as it needs to be to create a masterpiece like this.

Awesome work dude!
Thanks, Jim! :)

For the Moon, I use manual eyeball focus. I usually find a group of craters or a jumble of chaos and watch the laptop screen until I can get the features as sharp as I can. That's pretty easy when seeing is ok but can be a little rough with poor seeing. Just gotta watch for the moments of clarity. Doesn't take but 15 to 20 seconds at the most. Most of the time, less than 5. :D

I tried the auto-focuser but that was too darn frustrating with lunar focusing. Granted, I could focus on a star, but often enough, lunar captures happen when there aren't stars available. Plus, I find that what is optimal on a star is very slightly off with the Moon. Probably not enough to make a difference, but it bugs me anyway.

Thanks, GM!

Microsoft Image Composite Editor, aka MS ICE, is what I use for compositing images. It is super easy to use. Rather like building a martini. Put in the stuff, give it a good shake, and pour. Don't forget the olives. :)

His post might inspire me to try some planetary with the ASI071 since it has such a fast shutter. Might work, might not. If it ever clears up that is :D

Hi Bryan! Maybe it's just my old eyes but the cheesy green image seems to have crisper crater images. And, I LIKE the green tinge! Lol! Bill
