The Moon on 6 January

#1

Post by Piet Le Roux »

This is my first attempt at stacking : 8" LX90ACF, 0.5 GSO 2" focal reducer and XT100 fuji X . I stacked 5 RAW frames with Sequator.
I am surprised with the result : viewing conditions were not ideal, it was very hot with rising currents.

That's very sharp! What's the reddish hue from? I see the moon and its always black and white.

Thats a fine lunar shot Piet! Great sharpness!

Very nice process for sure. I have a single frame shot of the moon from several years ago and I thought that it was pretty sharp until I looked at yours. Thats sharp!

Did you focus with the camera or pc?

Thanks,
Jim

We had very hot dry and windy conditions I think the red is form a lot of dust in the sky. I also like black and white for the moon but these were done in color RAW with no processing before.

I only used the camera's(XT100 Fuji X) build-in focus aid. There is a option to zoom in when the focus aid is on but did not use it , rookie mistake, I also misjudged my exposure because I forgot that the my F ratio would be about F 6 and not F10 Hopefully I would get another change tonight and get more usable RAWs.

Nicely done Piet, good for you :D Some nice detail there for sure! BTW, when I do the same thing with my Canon T3/C80 and stack them with the color option, they always have a brown/reddish tinge to them as well.

Best of luck tonight,
Mark
