More fun with the C80 and SV102T

#1

Post by bladekeeper »

Last night I decided to try the Celestron C80 achro with a color cam, this time the ASI174MC. This cam has a larger sensor compared to the ASI120MM-S. Despite this, it still couldn't quite fit the full disk in the frame. I elected to barlow-up and grab three panels for a mosaic.

There is some CA present but it isn't showing much. I tried to crank this through my StarTools color balance process but that caused the CA to light up like a Christmas tree along with some other fun colors.

After that, I swapped out for the SV102T and used the same cam, again with the 2× barlow.

After that I configured for DSO imaging. I managed NGC 1333 and the Horsehead Nebula. NGC 1333 turned out terrible and the Horse is not much better.

Tonight, lots of high thin clouds in the sky despite the clear forecast. I decided I'd just do the Moon again and not worry about deep sky. Here is the result of that:

I packed up afterward. I don't mind either, I'm tired of being disappointed.

You sure done good!

The C80 produced a nice stitch, but the SV image really pops!

Fine lunar shots Bryan!

Nicely done Bryan - You should have left which scope you used out to see if anyone could guess. ;D
And, holy crap you are getting good at it.

Yes, it is kind of ugly out there isn't it - I've have a new mono for a couple of months & the only photons it has seen were from the test run
in the basement.

Hang in there, brother - sooner or later

Wow, well done on all of those! The first with the C80 is great, but I can see where an APO really shines :D

I'm still few shots off of a complete lunar cycle, but while that's waiting to happen, I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy your pics!

All the best and must get some sleep ;)

I hear you there... Was out in the shed tonight rebuilding and modifying the mount for my old Sears 60mm (the RA knob should be on the left, not the clock drive  ) when the wind picked up and the rain started.
The minute I do anything telescope related, I swear...!!!

Good luck on your skies, we'll see who clears first :D

All the best,

All the best,
My wife went up to see her folks this morning (4.5-hour drive). It seems like every time she leaves town, it takes my sunshine away. I suppose there are romance and poetry in that, but it sure does suck for astronomy.

Now that's a distance drive I've done many times (Toronto to Montreal; same amount of time), and you know the clear skies will be following her :D You also know you should show her that post when she gets back... ;)

I hear you though. Every time Jackie and Sarah go see Jackie's mum, I stay home, as I know what's good for me... And it's always cloudy when they do. Of course, if I did go and suffered for being the only male there, the skies at home would be crystal clear!

Well, there's always the son & nephew, pizza, binge watching......

Hope your wife is doing well, and hope it clears for you :D
