3-panel Lunar Mosaic with a C80, 1 November 2019

#1

Post by bladekeeper »

Nabbed this data last night. I was curious to see what the yield would be from a Celestron C80 achromatic refractor and a ZWO ASI120MM-S.

MS ICE refused to composite the three images. I think I may have bone-headed during my GIMP cropping. I ended up taking the original stacks, cranking them through Registax again for wavelet sharpening and then directly into MS ICE. That worked like a charm.

Anyway, not too shabby for a 30-year-old achro. :)

Very nice Bryan! :D I'm amazed at the detail and size of your image as well. Not to mention the lack of CA. Between my two C80's, I can't get that from a DSLR....

Nicely done and hope all is good; I'm also hoping the rain will stop one day

All the best buddy,
Mark

"The Hankmeister" Celestron 8SE, orange tube Vixen made C80, CG4, AZ-EQ5 and SolarQuest mounts.
Too much Towa glass/mirrors.

All the best buddy,
Thanks, my friend!

Yeah, using the ASI120MM-S is good for hiding the CA since it is a monochrome cam. I may try it again this evening with the ASI174MC since it is color. The 120 has a very small chip so that coupled with the focal length of the C80 makes for a rather small image scale. I had the 2× barlow ready but didn't need it. The 174 has a larger sensor so it will fit more of the disk in the frame.

Fun to play. :D

All the best to you as well, Mark! :)

This is probably the best one you have done Bryan in my opinion, as much as that is worth.😊
Whatever you did in processing whether it was purposeful or a happy coincidence it is excellent.
The focus and contrast on the bright limb is in perfect balance with the terminator. The creamy texture and detail at this image scale is remarkable.

I always look at young Proclus when I view the lunar image where this crater is in evidence. It is a benchmark for me. Proclus is supurb.
Your field is really quite well resolved and becoming.

Thank you.
And Bravo, my erstwhile visual friend. 😊

There is no need to slow down...if you do I will be bored.

Haha, thanks, everybody! You are way too kind. :D

Grabbed some color data with the same scope last night. It was...interesting. :D

I'll get that worked up and posted sometime soon.

And if you guys think this is a nice capture with the 80mm, check out what my buddy Mark did with his 60mm! Amazing work here: https://www.theskysearchers.com/viewtop ... =67&t=4439 :)

"old achromatic refractor"? Wow. Very nice detail. You must have shot it in monochrome since I'm not seeing any chromatic fringing.

Thanks, Henry! Yes sir, this was shot in monochrome.

I did another last night with a color cam. The fringing is well-apparent in that one. I'll get that posted up sometime this evening. :)
