Moon Spam

#1

Post by bladekeeper »

I've been trying to keep my Moon Spam curbed a bit. So instead of three threads you get only one with three images. :)

All of these are 6-panel mosaics captured with my SV102T, AVX, and ASI174MC

SharpCap: 6x1000 frame 16-bit SER files
Autostakkert! 2: Stacked the best 10% of frames from each SER file, saved as TIF images
Registax 6: A glance at the wavelets, first slider to 8, second slider to 4. This seems to be optimal with my SV102T
GIMP: A slight crop of the edges of each frame to eliminate stacking artifacts
MS ICE: Open all 6 TIF files and composite and crop, saved composite as a TIFF image
GIMP: Export that TIFF to a new, uncompress TIFF
StarTools: Open as an RGB image and reverse the stretch (options offered when file is opened). Then to Develop, dark anomaly filter to 2 pixels, home in to 55%. Color module, accept defaults, keep, save, and done.

That's about it.

The first image here I had to fight the clouds for. The second went well as did the third. It has been interesting following the Moon over the entire cycle so far, especially how it is rising further north (and later) each evening as it wanes.

From 15 September:

From 17 September:

That's it from me for a few days. I'm getting a bit sheepish on the Moon spamming.

You may or may not know this, but Hawaii is the center of the Spam universe. Many different flavors of Spam are sold here in the grocery store. So I found it surprising that I went and looked for Moon Spam but it hasn't made it out here yet. So looking forward to this new flavorful Spam.

Cheers,
J "Spammer" T

PS, should I ever forget what the Moon looks like, I will use your images to remind me just how beautiful the evil orb can be. jt

 Bryan, they have 12 step programs for people that view (and image) the Moon that much. The real sign of trouble is howling at it!!!! As much as I dislike the evil orb I am kind of excited for the next Full Moon. My renters are here combining the coyotes hiding spots (crop). The next cycle I can push 'em back from the food source (cats) with a lead deterant.

The outside dog will be able to take a well deserved vacation from protecting our walikin' mouse traps.....

Nice images BTW.

And here is the capture from the night of 18 September (technically on the 19th as it was after midnight, let it all hang out, thanks Clapton).

Bryan, your Spam is so darn good that even those who don't like the (moon) flavor like it. Keep up the good work, my friend.

(As an aside and "for real"... I was once the Great, Grand, Exulted Poo-Pa of LOOSE (Loyal Order Of Spam Eaters). If anyone would like to know the (kinda long) story, I'll type it up... It combines spam with newspaper hats and ritualistic ceremonies.)
