The Moon, Sept 12

#1

Post by Thefatkitty »

It cleared up quite nicely tonight after a cloudy & rainy day. The clearest night I've seen in months, actually. Too bad the full Moon is up; would've been a great night for my dob... Oh well.

There were still a few fat fluffy clouds going by when I set up. The odd thing was is they were going from east to west. I've been in the backyard enough to know they always come in from the west and go to the east. I'm no meteorologist, but I wonder if Dorian going through Atlantic Canada over the weekend has something to do with it. It was odd, looking to the east instead of the west to monitor the clouds!

Anyways, there was enough crystal clear sky to nab a few frames. I took them through my 80mm f/11.4 using my Canon T3 at ISO 800. IO went from 1/500 to 1/1000 second exposure time; the ones at 1/500th came out the best, as I suspected they would.
25 frames, PIPP, AS2, and ImPPG.

I must get to bed now, at least it's Friday tomorrow :D

All the best,
Mark

Very nice capture, Mark!

Yeah, that sounds like it may be Dorian influenced. Anytime the clouds are backward here it is usually due to a tropical storm or remnant flying overhead. Always ominous when they are coming. You see the huge cloud bank rising from the south and it just gets bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger and...

Beautiful image Mark. As I woke up this morning the full moon was seemingly a giant orange ball just above the western horizon.

Thanks Bryan, been so cloudy lately. Last night was the best in over 3 months, and look who was up in all it's blazing glory....
And those westward flying clouds stopped about noon today. It was just so bizarre to see that! After noon, the humidity rose and rose.... I just came in from the best thunderstorm all year. I heard the shed rattle from 20 feet away when the thunder cracked overhead, just after the lightning turned the sky into day.
See what tomorrow brings, hope you have a good night!

Thanks for the compliment Jim, and good to hear from you :D Yeah, you just go with the flow. I'd like to do the DSO thing; I wanted to get into it a bit this year, but as much as I hate to say it, this has got to be the worst year ever for owning a telescope.
Probably just as well. I hope the money I have saved will buy me something better when the skies get clearer. The way its going, I should be able to get an 8" APO....

Thanks Michael! That must have been a great sight. I've noticed orange sunsets and the Moon rising with an orange color in the past few weeks as well.
Hope all is well :D
