Another one, 4 September 2019

It has been a day, man. And it's not over yet. Still dealing with work stuff. Whoever made the joke about banker's hours needs to be slapped. 14 and 15 hour days are getting old, man.

Too many strands in the old duder's head. I'm doing my best to abide.

Supposed to be clear tonight but crap transparency. A nice wad of clouds swarmed in and stayed to the south, clinging hard to the Moon. I finally caught a sucker hole and kicked of a capture.

And I enjoyed watching 1000 frames flow in at 3 FPS. Why? Why?

I had to pause a few times to let the cloud smoke clear away before resuming.

Got that in the can, finally, and then went for a polar alignment and focus routine with SharpCap, and then fired up NINA for a DSO capture. For some reason, I had lots of trouble with all of it. It was like trying to install a turtle-neck sweater on a bull elk.

Finally, after much cussing and fit throwing, I got things running properly on the Iris Nebula. Transparency is still poop but I really don't care anymore.

And hey, my final work problem was just resolved! Oh joy! I need to sign up for some of that medicinal Mary Jo, I'm thinking. Smoke a fatty and eat Cheetos. Sounds good to me. Sign me up.

Here is my lunar capture:

Bryan, I actually laughed out loud on that one! Still, I feel for you on the hours. Just promise you don't go postal...

Nice picture as well! But 3 FPS? Wish I could help, but all I know is my DSLR.... I had the same tonight as well, playing catch the suckerhole. Always fun stuff weeding it all out later.

Hopefully the Iris nebulae worked out for you, methinks you deserve a bit of a break!

May your day be better tomorrow and all the best,
Mark

Very nice. And I see that the sunrise ray in Hypatia was just about to appear -- I caught a good view of it tonight from here a couple hours later. I find that, when I get a view of Hypatia's sunrise ray, I can usually see Hesiodus's sunrise ray a few days later. If the cloud gods will favor you, perhaps something to look for this weekend.

I think the cause, in hindsight, of the FPS issue is due to the filter still being on there and I have to crank up the exposure time accordingly. I failed to realize that at the time and chose to blame karma.

Still banging away on the nebula. I just watched NINA do an automatic meridian flip. That still creeps me out. All hail our robot overlords!

Thanks, MrShorty! And great info on the sunrise ray in Hypatia. My hope is that I can grab a capture each day of the lunar cycle. Hopefully the clouds will cooperate! :)

Funny, I was going to comment about how much you love taking shots of the Moon... I'm apparently nowhere near as creative as JT though!
