Funny, I was going to say try your Mak. The longer focal length as well as the optical quality will probably make a huge difference. I have a 60mm at f/7 and an 80mm at f/11.4. The difference in quality between the two with anything photographic is night and day; I find the shorter f/l introduces more "pixelating" for lack of a better term.

Yeah, should of just went with the Mak, but I have been practicing focusing with the ST-80.

I have a focal reducer if I need it.

Well done. It looks really good. I would only add one thing, and it’s a good thing.

With this type of camera, once you get it in the focus on the moon, it will be in focus for planets. If you want to try planetary pictures in the future, I would recommend focusing it on the moon first, then going to the planet you want to look at.

Like I said before, it’s hard to get into focus sometimes, but it can be well worth it in the end.

Hi Jeff. If it weren't for Rhoda and Vanessa I might have missed this nice thread. A very good first image using the moon with the short focal length ST80 achro refractor. Excellent contrast, mare regions and lots of surface details along the terminator in your capture. Thanks for sharing this with us on here Jeff and keep up the great work.
