Moon single shot April 24, 2021

#1

Post by Thefatkitty »

Last night (Saturday) was clearish out, as in only the brightest stars and a haze around the Moon. Still, it was warm, I was having a fire... Why not. I got my C80-HD from inside the back door and my Canon 550D.
I set that up a good way away from the fire, and took 10 shots at ISO 800 and 1/640 sec exp. I knew stacking them would result in a mess with the haze, but I did try:

You can see the vertical lines at the top half, the "separation" at the top of the disc... This sort of thing always happens when it's hazy out or a lot of moisture in the air. So why did I bother?

Well, 1) I had nothing better to do than stare at the fire and 2) I was curious to see if I could get one decent shot and maybe play with it a bit in Photoshop.
That's what I did, and this is the result:

Not too bad for a single image IMO. Still a bit of hazy moonglow and the center is not too sharp, but what the heck; it's always fun to try :D

Have a good night everyone!

Hi Mark. I like the single shot lunar image. You did a great job with the C80-HD scope and Canon 550D camera. For a near full moon, you have a lot of contrast, surface details, and ejecta rays in your capture. Thanks for putting this up for us to enjoy Mark, and keep the good work.
