That is a really nice lunar image Mark!
There is a certain peacefulness getting up early. I like it! Don’t feel like doing it as much as I used to though!
I really enjoy PS Camera Raw too. Amazing stuff! The main reason that I keep PS!
Take care.f
Thanks Jim, and I agree with you on the getting up early. My bladder helps me with that
I knew you and a few others on here were using Camera Raw so I thought to give it a shot; glad I did!

Very nice image Mark! I’m looking forward to later this week when the moon will give us a break and start rising after midnight so I can hopefully do some work on my Herschel list. I love early morning observing. It’s so peaceful! Thanks for sharing your report with us.
Thanks Ed and good to hear from you! Hopefully your skies have been clear the last couple of days and continue; good luck with the Herschel list!

Nice image Mark. I also enjoy getting up early, sometimes at 4:30 or so to get in an hour of observing. Very peaceful and usually the light pollution level is slightly better.
Thanks Michael; and I have to agree, it is nice; at least when I'm awake. That's the hard part...

Mark, I am so, so impressed with the result you got of your Moon shot
The best I have been able to get is a big white blob with no details whatsoever.
I understood your explanation of the aperture and shutter speed settings on your camera, but you lost me after the stacking process and other programs you were using.
I just have a
Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 camera. Can you please tell me if there is a way to get some acceptable shots of the Moon with the camera I have got :veryconfused:
I know I can set some things manually on my camera, but I suppose I have not experimented enough with it :sigh:
If you could give me some suggestions to get started I would very much appreciate it. Please keep it as simple as possible though. I'm not as technically minded as yourself and lots of other members on here, so If I have to do multiple procedures involving different software to get a good result, then I think I would just get too frustrated with it and give up.
If there's not a fairly simple way of getting some good Moon shots with just the camera I have got then please tell me. At least I'll know if I am wasting my time or not.
I am well out of my comfort zone for photographing the sky and need lots of help :veryconfused: . Give me landscapes and animals and I am okay
Thanks for the kind words Vanessa, but there's better than what I did on here for sure
I looked up your camera, that is very nice indeed; I'm envious! I like Graeme's idea as well. If you have a zoom lens and a tripod, you're all set from what I understand. I've never actually done that, most (99%) of my pics of the Moon are done with this rig:
However, the scope in this case is just being used as a lens really.
Also, I know you have a Mac, and I don't know what you would use for aligning and stacking. As well, I've never tried video, I just take single frames. Then I align them in PIPP so that the Moon is in the same place in every frame, and stack them in AS3. All that does is combine the separate images into one, thus bringing out the detail a single frame won't have. And PhotoShop, Registax or the like for processing; sharpness, contrast, etc.
It's not difficult, and I'll look into what's available for Macs, unless someone here can chime in.
I'm with Graeme on the whole start your own thread as well; lots of helpful people here

Hello Mark. A very nice lunar image of the waning gibbous moon. The mare regions and the ejecta rays on Craters Tycho and Copernicus show up quite well. Thanks for taking the time to put your work up on here for us to enjoy Mark, I hope that get another chance to grab some more captures soon, as your weather seems to be improving now.
Thanks Marshall, and though my skies are clear, the temps have really dropped (below freezing). It snowed yesterday morning
Hope you and Sheri are well!

Filthy, stinking, Evil Orb. JK! Nice pic. I'll be firing up my baby Mak in another day or so for some lunar looking.
You're so right! At least it's only a bother really early in the AM for the next bit. That's what I want; a Mak... One of these fine days!
