Re: Tonight's unprecedented lunar eclipse is no cause for alarm
Tonight's unprecedented lunar eclipse was no cause for alarm!
Faintly visible to the naked eye at mid-eclipse. But more obvious in this animation. These images are the same exposure. I have colour corrected to equate the colour balance between the two images.

Re: Tonight's unprecedented lunar eclipse is no cause for alarm
It was "alarming" in that it woke me up. At 05:45 local, within a minute or two of maximum eclipse, the moonlight shone in through my bedroom window, into my eyes and woke me up. I looked at my clock, thought, "Oh, yeah, maximum eclipse", looked out at the Moon, thought, "Oh, yeah, the top part is dimmer", pulled the covers over my head, and went back to sleep.
Nice image!

Thanks Kathy,
My response to early morning penumbral eclipses is similar to yours. On the other side of the pond, this eclipse was at a much more civilised hour. In progress at sunset/moonrise, maximum eclipse was at the end of astronomical twilight, all done by 10pm. So I had a go.

Re: Tonight's unprecedented lunar eclipse is no cause for alarm
Actually I was up at 5:00 am and saw something I thought was unusual as I looked at the moon through the living room window. Pretty cool!

I saw clouds and more clouds this morning followed by a rainy day. Thanks for sharing the animation, Joe.
