Oct 31st Blue Moon

#1

Post by Thefatkitty »

Last night I ventured out to see how cold it was (very) and was surprised to see the skies relatively clear, with the full Moon raging and dampness in the air. I got my 80mm C80 and Canon T2i and took 30 pics, figuring the moisture in the air would ruin the shots.

After running them through PIPP and 50% of that in AS3, I tried both Registax and ImPPG, and it just wasn't working out. Weird artifacts (straight lines horizontally and vertically) that I get on the Sun and Moon sometimes when it's damp out were rampant.
I thought to try processing the TIFF with with Photoshop 2020, which I recently acquired and still don't know much about.
What I realized after the fact that maybe keeping some note on the steps I took would have been a handy reference for after...

I'm neither thrilled nor displeased with the results; I don't know. I do like the cheesy achro tinge around the edges for some reason ;)

Thanks for looking and all the best,
Mark

Hi Mark. A very nice full Blue Moon. You have some very nice contrast in your image and it shows lots of surface details and ejecta rays. This is not easy to do with the brightness of a full moon, and in many captures the moon seems to "bloom" out and obscure some items. Thanks for sharing this with us on here Mark, and keep up the good work.

I'm by no means an expert on the technicalities you used to get the image Mark, but having said that, the image looks fantastic to me

I think you should be thrilled with the result.

Thanks for the comments, all! I guess I'm just being picky. Marshall, you're right, a full Moon is a hard target. I was almost tempted to go get my solar filter for it...

Hope you all have a clear night, unlike me ;)

All the best,
Mark
