July 4 penumbral eclipse

There sure isn't much to look at, lol. But at least I tried. I used my camera, a long lens, and a pair of 10x50 binoculars. The binoculars (and a little imagination) seemed to work best. Here is a shot taken just after the maximum. With a little imagination you can almost see it at the northern edge and into Mare Imbrium below. As subtle as it was, it was actually more than I expected.

It seems to me there is some darkening along the northern limb. Nice job, Rob. I have observed several penumbral eclipses over the years, but have never managed to see any darkening by eye. Clouded out this time.

Yeah, you expect something equivalent to what you eye perceives as well as the emotions which go along with what you're seeing, but those are often the subliminal intangibles that a photographic image can't reproduce. However, knowing what APers are up against with Penumbral lunar eclipses, I think you did a fine job. There's certainly some legitimate color there and you can't fault your focus either. I don't see how you can get a more dramatic picture of a Penumbral eclipse but astrophotographers are often a surprising lot! Heh!

Nice job! I had set up to take a "movie" of exposures 1 minute apart. The predictions were for clouds to roll in at 2AM - well after the event. Alas the clouds rolled in 3 hours early. No stars, no moon. Just a very light gray sky What have done to the weather gods to deserve 4 weeks of clouds every night?

Hi Rob. A nice lunar penumbral eclipse image taken with the camera and telephoto lens. We are on our fifth straight day of thunderstorms here in Florida, so appreciate seeing the successful work of others on here. Thanks for sharing this Rob, and the best of regards.
