3 images with new Samyang 135mm F2 Lens

#1

Post by carastro »

This is the first of 3 images i managed to do in the last week.

We are on Coronavirus Lockdown in the UK just starting the 2nd of 3 weeks. Luckily our hobby is one that can still be done in isolation except I have to do it in the Light polluted London skies Bortle 8 and can't get to my dark astro camp location.

I have never had success before with a camera lens, but wanted a bigger FOV. I had seen this lens much raved about so I decided to give it a go, and am really pleased with the results.

All done with Samyang 135mm F2 lens imaging at F2.8
Atik460EX, Newly Rowan belt modded HEQ5, Bortle 8

(1st image) Jellyfish nebula IC443
Ha 12 x 600 secs
RGB 17 x 150 secs
Oiii 10 x 300secs (but doesn't really add to the image)

Image

(2nd Image) Flaming Star IC405, Tadpole nebula IC410 and the Spider Nebula IC417
Ha 17 x 600
Ha 4 x 900
Oiii 13 x 300 Binned x 2
Sii 13 x 300 Binned x 2
RGB 7 x 150 each
Total 6h 32mins Taken over 2 evenings
Combined as RHa, GOiii, BSii
Image

(3rd Image) North America Nebula NGC7000 and Pelican Nebula IC5070
Ha 16 x 600
Oiii 2 x 300 binned x 2 (clouds spoiled the other 6)
Sii 6x 300 binned x 2
RGB for stars 8 a 150 each
Total imaging time 4 hours 20mins
Some cloud messed up some of the subs.

Beautiful images, Kathy. Thanks for sharing. The amount of nebulosity is striking but so are the stellar colors.

Several months ago I purchased a lightly used, but in beautiful absolutely mint condition, 85mm f/1.8 Canon EF lens that I can't wait to try out. If under mostly dark skies that we get here in central Illinois from time to time, all the better! I can't wait to share the images particularly if they look 1/10th as good as the ones you posted. I'm hoping single-frame capture is a viable option with this lens.
Telescopes: Meade LX90 10-inch f/10 UHC Coma-free SCT; Explore Scientific 127mm f/7.5 APO ED triplet refractor; Explore Scientific 102mm f/7 APO ED triplet refractor; Explore Scientific 80mm f/6 APO ED triplet refractor; Skywatcher 72mm f/6 ED Schott doublet refractor; Meade 70mm f/5 APO quadruplet astrograph refractor; Skywatcher Quattro 8-inch f/4 Newtonian astrograph; Orion 6-inch f/4 Newtonian astrograph; Skywatcher SkyMax 180mm f/15 Maksutov; iOptron 150mm f/12 Maksutov; Orion f/9 Ritchey-Chretien RC astrograph
Eyepieces: Set of 7 Baader Hyperion eyepieces, 3 Meade 5000 glass handgrenades; 1970s era Japanese manufactured Meade 12.5mm Orthoscopic, and too many other eclectic eyepieces to list
Mounts: Skywatcher EQ6-R Pro mount; Orion Atlas EQ-G mount
Post-production Software: Not good enough … oh, okay ... Canon's proprietary CanoScan ArcSoft 9000F photoshop suite

Thanks Hankmeister, I would not say single images, they would be too noisy.

BTW it is Carole, I forgot to put my real name.

We have had some nice clear skies in South East England over the last week or so and it looks like you really made the most of it.

Excellent imaging Carol.

Graeme

First, Carole, it's nice to hear from you and know that you are OK. Stay well.

Those are three nice images Carole with lots of low-level nebulosity. The new lens worked very well.

Nice processing job too.

Cheers,
Steve
