Back to the night sky and some AP

#1

Post by Slater »

After about a 4 yer break (thanks kids) from astronomy, Ive managed to sneak some time under the stars for the first time in a while. I recently moved to the Phoenix area which provides many fewer cloudy nights but a ton more LP than my previous locale.
My 12" dob is still in the box, i do not trust my kids around it. however I do have a Nikon I can hide from the kids.

I snuck out a 180mm nikor f/2,8 can capture some data on M42 with my first go at post processing with GIMP.
Its about 1 minutes ~40 secs (80 subs of 1.3 sec) exposures on a Nikon d5100 on a rigid (cheap) tripod from amazon. ISO was 2500 i think. full stop at f/2.8

thanks for taking a look.

Also, I recently came across a star adventurer for under $200 so i\m hoping to get some longer exposures in the near future.

I was also a previous astronomyforum.net member and was surprised to learn that site is not active anymore???

Clear, virus free skies,

AC
