I am working on a HDR combine of M42.

Shot long frames of 300 seconds, and short frames of 60 seconds. The idea to be to catch the core stars and integrate them together.

I was shooting through the narrow band filter and I was a bit concerned that 60 seconds would not be long enough duration... Wrong!

Looks like I need some shorter darks

Really nice job on that one Tom! Don't be afraid to go all the way down to 10 or 15 seconds and use those to HDRCombine, if you use Pixinsight...I can't remember....that'll really help that core!

Thanks, that seems like I will have to do. I was literally shocked at the level of detail for 60 second subs through that filter! I was really thinking a minute would not be long enough.

Hope to get a chance to do so this coming weekend. Need some matching darks though. But at 10 or 15 seconds those wont take long to collect.

Hello Tom. You achieved a very nice M42 image here. Beautiful wispy and colorful nebulosity and some dark dust clouds. Well done Tom, and thanks for putting this up on here for us to enjoy.

Thanks, your most kind. Yep pretty surprised at the depth of detail for such short exposures, and only 4 of them at that! A testament to the 071mc!

Shooting a whole new set of calibration darks tonight. 15 seconds out to 600 seconds. Sequence is 16 hours duration

I processed the 600 sec frames tonight. The processing techniques are a little difference. But still an interesting comparison.
