NGC7822 Bicolor

#1

Post by Micke187 »

Had some clear weather yesterday and i my target for the evening was the Emission nebula NGC7822.
A beautiful object and its a little odd that i dont see this more often beeing photographed as much as i thought. And also i tried search if it had a different name beside the catalogue name but didnt find anything.
Anyway here is the result i came up with.
the post-process is abit rough though..
Hope you like it!

Beautiful image Micke, and not an object I see posted up frequently. Nice to see someone go off the beaten track for their targets. Sure it has a name, NGC 7822! :) I am not a huge fan of nicknames as a general rule anyway. Might interest you to know that it was discovered by John Herschel in 1829.

and about a nickname as it is a rather large (as large as the tadpoles in comparising) i really thought it would have one.

Very pretty image Micke - Lots of details and color. I'll have to wait till next year to capture this one because it is now going behind my carport awning just as the sky gets dark.

I'm going to purchase an ASI1600GT (same as your ASI1600MM but with a built-in filter wheel). Hopefully by next year I'll have it mastered and ready to go.

Are the Ha, Oiii and Sii all Baader filters? What size are they? How wide are they (7 nm?)? How do you like them?

Thanks Steve! Well i will Re-process this as the colors are abit saturated now. And now that i finally purchased Pixinsight i hope to improve all my astrophotos. Just have lot of homework to do before :D

Well you wont be dissapointed in that camera i can assure you that. A really amazing camera for its price!

Yep all my filters are baader. And the filters are 36mm unmounted ones. I got a Starlight xpress filterwheel so when i purchased this wheel it only came with the 36mm filter carousel.
The Ha is 7nm O3 8.5nm and S2 8nm.
I think the HA and S2 is great but i want the O3 to be a little more narrower. So that is going to be upgraded to next seson. My lightpollution really does affect the data on the o3 and it makes it a real challange to remove in post-process. So if you got alot of lightpollution i would suggest you look for a little more narrower o3. There are these new baader ultranarrowband filters O34.5nm that might be a better choice :)

Thanks for the response Micke - I'm very excited about purchasing the new camera.

The GT model only comes with a carousel that holds 1.25" or 31mm filters. I'm going for the ZWO Ha and Sii 7 nm filters, but, plan on getting the Baader Ultra Narrowband 4.5nm Oiii filter like you suggest. Have read some good comments on it.

I'm using a pretty fast (F/4.9 Williams Optics Star71) telescope and hope the 1.25" filters won't cause too much vignetting.

Now I'm about to learn about the APT software and how to control the camera. At least it will keep my mind from getting "foggy".

Cheers,
Steve
