M45 4 panel OSC

#1

Post by UlteriorModem »

Here is what I managed to wring out of some pretty mediocre data.

A 4 panel Mosaic of M45 OSC data with a UV/IR cut filter. Each panel consists of 10 x 180second exposures Gain 139 Offset 21. Registered and merged with PI's gradient merge mosaic.

The ASI 1600mc has developed a nasty reddish glow on the right side of each (and every) panel. The large dust mote looking thing on the upper right edge is actually an internal reflection. If you look closely you will see the spider vanes  I get this with the Lum filter and very bright stars.

Thanks! Yea there really is nothing, save some processing tricks, that can be done to prevent them.

Lovely fine nebulosity :-) The main stars look a bit over saturated to me (still wonderful and intense though!) and wonder if taking shorter subs might help? Might also help with those reflections?

Yes shorter subs will help. I actually hope to grab a wider swath of the sisters with shorter subs. Maybe a 6 panel mosaic. Weather permitting :D

Also it was a little heavy on some processing aspects, but I really wanted to push the wisps ;)

6 panels sounds wonderful! I’m terrible with stars so probably why I notice those things but honestly don’t care that much, given the the wonderful wisps :-)

I have found once you get past 4 panels it starts to get really tricky. Still going to give it a try. Thanks.
