New Image: Leo Trio 2024

#1

Post by starfield »

On a recent trip to Tucson I was fortunate to get a couple of clear night. I decide to revisit the Leo Trio and test out a new location. While still a suburban site, it was definitely darker than my backyard here at home. The site wasn't quite dark enough to see much of the tidal tail on NGC 3628 so maybe that will give me a target for galaxy season next year.

This is a pretty tight crop of the full frame image. You can click the thumbnail to see the full image on Astrobin.

Thanks, Gordon. Really loved Tuscon and the desert was beautiful from all the rain. On the next trip out hope to test some of the surrounding dark skies and head up Mt. Lemmon (there was snow up there on this trip).

Thanks everyone. I was surprised how much detail could be found in the trio considering my short FL. Guess the small 2600 pixels help.

Yeah, this has been a tough winter for me as well. Normally in the winter here in Southern California we'll get a series of dry desert winds that give us some nice clear nights. Not this year. I thought a visit to the Arizona desert would be my ticket but was just barely able to squeeze in two nights. I can't complain too much. Days were beautiful and the desert wildflowers were getting primed to put on quite a show. Guess I'll have to focus on taking pictures of flowers!

Here's hoping for clear nights in April....
