East end of a Swan headed West

Test Image in Cygnus

*The following is a test image of a star field.

I'm very excited because my family bought me an IOptron skyguider pro kit to "freeze" the skies.

The full moon and clouds made for lousy conditions last weekend, but I went to my dark site (cabin @ Pelican Inlet, Manitoba) and took a few images.

Canon 60D, 90 second exposure, f2.8, 800 ISO, Rokinon 135 mm f2 lens.

Single exposure, processed in Lightroom.

The image was plate-solved in astrobin and is available here:

https://www.astrobin.com/m2t1de/?nc=user

So, the skyguider seems to work! My first ever deep sky image!! 8-)

Thanks for reading to the bottom,

Ian

Welcome to the rabbit hole. That is a great place to Start. The the SGP did a great job keeping the stars round. You may be amazed at how well it takes a more prolonged exposure. I have had mine passed the two and even three-minute-long exposure with fantastic results.

I recently loaded it up with my ES ED80 telescope to see how it handles the weight. I needed to order a second counterbalance weight, but it did pretty well. Until the extra weight comes in, I am sticking with my 70-200mm f4 and 24mm f1.4 lenses. I am a little jealous of your rokinon. I have had my eye on the 135 f2. That lens screams astrophotography.

You should look at Sequator https://sites.google.com/site/sequatorglobal/ It's a free and straightforward image processor designed for both deep space and nightscape photography. When you are ready to jump in and start stacking lots of images, it's a terrific place to start.
Cameras: Canon T3,6D Mark II

EPs: lots of choices.
Mounts: CGEM, SkyGuide Pro
Accessories and DoDads: Too many.

Hi madperk,

Thanks for your excellent advice :D. I am really pleased with the SGP... so far, so good. I did take a couple of 2 min exposures, haven't posted anything yet. I found the Rokinon 135 f2 used at a local shop for a very nice price, I think I got lucky with this lens.

Thanks for your advice re: Sequator. 8-)

Kind regards,

Ian

Hi Mark,

Thanks!! I don't know where the blue is coming from but its in all 10 of my sequential images. I will try to stack them and see if anything else reveals itself.

I didn't take any darks, etc to help myself.
