DSLR of M42

This is just 2hrs and 40 mins on M42 with flats, dark flats and bias calibration files. Taken with the Full spec Nikon D5300 ED72 and Sightron Duoband filter. Processed in PI for SCC, BXT, and a Stretch and then combined with 10x30 secs and 10x10 secs core images in PS to preserve the core details and back in PI for NXT, the Trapezium is fully resolved . I haven't boosted the blues or any of the colours, just a little vibrance and a small overall saturation increase, but nothing crazy. I might do an arty version with increased blues and such later but I like it as it is. For now

Yer, me too. I much prefer more natural colours. Besides, I'd have to force the blue in this as there isn't much there from the reflection nebula due to the nature of the filter.

You are correct there my friend. The high dynamic range can be a tricky on to conquer properly. I used 10, 30 and 300 second exposures and then blended them together to balance the brightness across the screen. The detail in and around the trapezium came out well. Thanks for your comment

Thank you Marius I’d like to add some RGB to better bring out the blues in the reflection nebula around portions of M42 and the running man. The duo-band filter works well for the Ha and OIII but cuts the reflection aspects. I tried adding some blue to the processing and I also split the channels and combined them in different ways but didn’t like the results as they just looked over cooked and false. Gotta get some good RGB frames to add in.
