LDN 137 and LDN 141 and Dusty Surrounds

#1

Post by jthommes »

Here is an image of LDN 137 and LDN 141 and surrounding region. The background star field is fairly dense, so the dark nebulae stand out pretty well. LDN 141 is smaller and denser than LDN 137 and is either embedded in or foreground to the larger dark nebula. Also in this field are some background galaxies. Some of those have similar distance measurements and are members of the the same galaxy group [CHM2007] 1223.

Image and details can be accessed from the link below. For convenience, I have provided a link to the annotated image below, but it can also be accessed from the main image page.

Wonderful Jim! Man, that is one star field and I agree that the nebula really presents well in it.

Beauty Jim - The annotated version is spectacular. Thanks for taking the time to do your custom annotation. Very informative.

Thanks. Not all that complicated - PixInsight lets me save general processing steps, but each data set generally requires some tweaking. Sometimes it can get a bit tedious with the annotation, but generally not tricky (unless you are trying to figure out the LDN / LBN details from the catalog).

Thanks Steve, I mentioned above that the annotation can be a bit tedious - I enjoy doing it but it is nice to hear your comments of appreciation.
