SH2-235 (interaction with Sh2-233)

Post by umasscrew39 »

Sh2-235 is a bright HII region, that is part of a larger complex consisting of SH2-231, 232, and 233 in the constellation Auriga. It is odd in that it contains much more SII than OIII. In fact, it contains very little OII; thus, I am presenting an unusual Ha:SII bicolor image. Also, I had a big struggle getting this image as I took it over several nights during moon illumination between 80-99% as it was only a few degrees away from the moon. This led me to throw out over 10 hrs of SII data. Thus, not the best of images, so I need to revisit this area another time.

The first image shows the interaction with Sh2-233 in the lower left. The second is Sh2-235 cropped.

Always a shame to have to chuck 10 hours of data!!!

But you got a nice image all the same.

I know...but my own fault for being so stupid. I thought I could handle the intense moon glow with pre- and postprocessing, but the frames were simply washed out. A hard lesson to learn but I won't make that mistake again.
