NGC 1333 Embryo Nebula

#1

Post by starfield »

Had a chance to visit the DAA in Shelter Valley and take advantage of nice dark desert skies. Spent time imaging the Embryo Nebula, a new target for me and a real interesting one. This is an active star forming region with lots of dust in the surrounding area. I tried something new here and tamed the stars by creating a starless version of the lum channel and then blending it with a synthetic L layer from the RGB that had more well-behaved stars. Took advantage of EZ star reduction script to shrink them a bit more.

15 frames each RGB at 240 sec, 121 gain. 50 frames lum at 240 sec, 121 gain.

Let me know what you think.

Beautiful job on the processing. You brought out the dust (which seems to be everywhere) so that it is easy to see while preserving the nebula at the same time. Lovely stars as well. Well done!

Thanks, all. This was indeed a dusty image. Don't think I've ever had a data set before where I started thinking about toning down the dust. This shot is really fun to look at rotated 90 degrees and gives the image a totally different feel.

On a personal note, my 98 year old father-in-law passed this weekend. Full life, well lived and he loved looking at these photos. I'm going to be printing this version and sharing with the family and name it "Ascension" in tribute.

Hi Steve. A very enjoyable NGC 1333 (Embryo Nebula) image. Excellent contrast, star field, dark dust details, and blue reflection nebulosity. This was great processing Steve, thanks for sharing the view with us, and congratulations on receiving the TSS APOD Award today.

Congrats on the award.

Great capture and a worthy tribute.

Maybe they could re-name that nebula the "Ascension Man Nebula".
