NGC 2239, NGC 2244, The Rosette Nebula - WIP

Hi there,

This is ONLY a work in progress. I only acquired about 3.5 hours on this a few nights ago with the intention of collecting 6-8 hours of data over two nights (it goes into the trees).

Well, the weather looks like garbage into next week, so I could not resist playing around with the 3.5 hours of data, just to take a “snapshot”.

The image has "L-eNhance" stars and I didn't try to deal with it. Maybe I will shoot a few hours of rgb stars. I have yet to try adding rgb stars to a narrowband image. Sounds like fun. Just need some clear skies. Many different things to try, but I didn't want to spend the time until a get a full dataset.

Sharpstar 61 EDPHII
Skywatcher HEQ5 Pro mount
ASI 533 MC-Pro. About 3.5 hours with the L-eNhance filter
Acquired with N.I.N.A., Green Swamp Server, and PHD2. Processed with everything that I have. Pixinsight, Photoshop CC, and Topaz Denoise AI

I will soon double the data and give is a better process. I am really looking to splitting the channels and try different color palettes.

C & C very welcome!

It already looks very nice Jim. Look forward to seeing the finished version.

Hi Steve,
I am happy with the details in the nebula, but the stars and background need some work. Just got antsy.

I just recently started to collect “pieces” of datasets whenever I get a few hours when my main target is unavailable.
I’ve not had 100% success with more data improving the final image, however, the extra data is usually collected in the neighborhood light dome. The sweet spot of sky near the meridian is by far the cleanest data.
I’ve not had the opportunity to image at a dark site. I’m sure that the data would be awesome.
Thanks for your kind words!

Hi Jean-yves,
I really appreciate your very nice comments! Thanks!
Hopefully, I can finish this target soon. If not, I will make a few touches to what I have now and wrap this target up for 2021.

Looks stunning thus far, sharp as a tack, with a deeply rich and full nebulosity. Like Steve said, definitely looking forward to the finished version.

Thanks G @Gmetric , Jeff @Ylem, Peppy @Peppy , and Marius @MariusD69 !

Your comments are very much appreciated!

Just can't resist tweaking. Slight bump in contrast and saturation in PS.

Too much??? I could have gone too far. Bottom line is that I plan to catch more data soon, so I need to leave this image alone and take care of the other things that I need to do today!!!

Hi Jim. Well, you are off to a great start with this image. You already have beautiful colors and details in your capture of the Rosette Nebula with the 3.5 hours of data. Thanks for taking the time to put this up on here to enjoy Jim and congratulations on receiving the TSS APOD Award today.

Hi Jim,
Beautiful image. Congratulations. I could only see your image on the POTD page. On this page I only get "500 Internal server error" message.

Congratulations again. Lovely image.

Thanks Gordon for the apod award!

Thank you for the nice comments!@STEVE333 , @Makuser , @OzEclipse

I finally gave in and called this a "final for now". Poor skies in the foreseeable forecast.

The Flickr original shared link must have gotten broken. I just published a final "for now" image on Astrobin. To me, this image looks better on my ipad than my processing pc.

I really do plan to get a good bit more data and broadband stars, but it might be awhile. Back in the funk for awhile!

This hobby sure is fun!

Thanks all!!!

I like them both Jim.
Jumping back and forth on flickr I see your edit. I thought I liked the first one more, but now I think I like the second edit most...
Opinions are like ears...most donkeys have two...😊

APOD 👍👍👍

Hi Mark!

Actually, I did reduce the background some in the final version on Astrobin (post 14).

It is really hard for me to settle on a final. I have to save many versions, walk away for awhile, then take a look later abd decide.

Thanks my friend!

"It is really hard for me to settle on a final. I have to save many versions, walk away for awhile, then take a look later and decide."

Precisely !
That is the way.
And even then sometimes it is still a difficulty.

I did not see the astrobin posts.
I will check that one and get back to you. 😊

Ok...the Astrobin post may now be my favorite. 😊
It is interesting to observe this evolution in your finish.

This is a Great image Jim!
