NGC 1491 - Fossil Footprint SHO

Here's a project I've been working on for a couple of weeks. Started just after last moon cycle and was able to "finish" it over the last couple of nights. This target has proved to be a tough one to process right. I've been working on an SHO version. May give an HOO version a try. I needed about 10 hours of exposure to get the claw/paws to show up. So far I have over 20 hours total time in on this (new record).

In studying the image, I'm not certain if there's another small nebula up near the top of the right "claw". I'm going to have to do some digging to see if it's just part of NGC 1491 or if it was an artifact I introduced.

Here's where I'm at right now:

84 frames each SHO at 300 seconds each. Gain 300. RGB stars.

I am not familiar with this target. So obscure. 20 hours wow! It does look like a nebulous area at the top right. Have you found out anything? Maybe Astrometry.net?

Nice job of capturing and bringing out the faint nebulosities associated with this target. Not sure I've seen this one before. Maybe because it is so faint not many try to capture it. Well done.

That looks great! Incidentally I started imaging the Fossil tonight but gave up after looking at the first two frames. I only got the central nebulosity and figured it would be too much to take on. Congratulations with the image!

Yeah, about 5 hours in I realized I probably should have gone even longer on my NB subs. Outside of the main "pad" the rest of the nebula is super faint. It's been a challenge for sure. May try adding even more data since I'm so far down the rabbit hole and my next set of targets are still too low for shooting out of the Death Star.

I was looking at this tonight with a view to giving it a shot in the future. I might wait until I can get to a dark sky sight now, lol. You've captured a beautiful image of it, though and clearly, the TOT paid off.

Wonderful image. Nice data collection and processing. I know that's tough to get these faint NB targets in your light pollution environment.

So that "nebula" in the top right (near one of the medium bright stars) has a designation in Simbad as "Name PN OU 1" (possible planetary nebula). Also in about a 3.6' diameter encompassing it is the dark nebula, Dobashi 4071.
