NGC1499 SHO

The skies have absolutely sucked here in Ohio lately with lake effect precipitation, fortunately not in the form of snow yet. I captured 3 more hours last night, adding more Oxygen and Sulfur emissions. Total integration of 12hrs in 5 minute subs using the ASI1600mm, Radian Raptor and ZWO filters.

Setup around 3am, after waking up earlier and found it to be still cloudy and went back to bed. The AVX was not cooperating at all until I skipped the ' use last calibration ' at startup. The targets I wanted to shoot were all close to the meridian or zenith and meridian flips have routinely failed as of late. So I went back to get more on this target and imaged until the 6:45am.

Nice tight stars and lots of low level nebulosity. Pretty image Steve. What filters (Ha and O3?) and what combination are you using?

Thanks Steve. ZWO 7nm filters, SHO 70% are HA and there wasn't anything in O3, lots of S2

The colors really show off the nebulae details nicely however.

Sorry for your troubles with your mount. I finally had to bail on my AVX and go with a HEQ5 Pro which I like very much. Still learning it though.

Thanks Jim... I am going to replace my AVX too. It works well 90% of the time and when it doesn't it just doesn't make sense. Putting more weight on it actually improved the guiding but did nothing to fix the flakiness of it.

Glad you like the HEQ5, I am hoping to get the EQ6-R Pro this winter.

I remember that you told me that the AVX guided better with both scopes mounted at the same time. For me, with just the lighter Sharpstar 61 mounted, the guiding was worse than with the ED102 mounted. Of course with an image scale of 2.8, it really made no difference!

I would have purchased the EQ6-R instead if I had a permanent setup (I believer that you do). I drag my rig in and out each session. Actually, the HEQ-5 is much heavier (and beefier) than the AVX.

Nice detail especially in the mono version, both are excellent images. The AVX does suffer with lighter loads, mines not too bad for my use (currently).

Hi Steve. A dazzling NGC 1499 (California Nebula) image. The nebulosity just jump out and the colors are very vibrant. And I also liked your monochrome version too. Thanks for sharing this work with us Steve and congratulations on receiving the TSS APOD Award.

Funny you didn't see anything in O3. I did get some reasonable signal with my 12 nm O3 in my version. I know its a broad BW range but it still doesn't seem too likely I got any Hb (if there was any).

I too have replaced my AVX for imaging (used still for visual). I got an iOptron GEM45 - couldn't be happier. I did have my eye on the EQ6-Pro, but couldn't get a delivery date.
