Flying Bat sans Squid

Reprocess of a wider fov that included an elephant etc., just to get the bat by itself. Only 30 minutes Ha and 20 minutes RGB, also did an hour and a half Oiii, but no sign of that squid, must've been digested!! Various filters shot over four nights late in August. I'd like to say that I'll keep trying on that green meanie, but probably not, too much to do and lost causes are not on my list.

Specifics, Rokinon 135mm f2 at f2.0 for 6/5 min Ha, at f2.8 for 20/1min RGB w/UV-IR filter, thru ASI1600MC-cool OSC, gain 200, offset 50, temp -10C. Captured and stacked in Nebulosity, final in PS CS5. Posted image 50% full size and 33% of full frame.

Pretty cool Steve! That Squid is a tough critter to capture. I think you are wise to move on to other targets. Lovely tight stars.

Beautiful bat! That is the first time I've seen an image where it looked like a flying bat. Well done!

The Squid, unfortunately, takes many hours through an Oiii filter. That critter is dim, as befits a creature that lives in the dark depths of the ocean.

Very nice Bat!! That Squid is super elusive!!! Long exposures and binning will help. I did try once myself but gave up ;(
