My first half-decent photo of orion nebula! 300 frames of 1.6"

#1

Post by realflow100 »

taken with 70mm F6 telescope refractor doublet telescope. and canon SL1 DSLR
300 frames at 1.6" second exposures. iso 12800 A few frames were discarded. so about 4 minutes and 51 seconds total exposure time.

This is by far my best photo of orion nebula!! I'm absolutely thrilled with the result. and I'm sure more can be brought out of the image too!
heres an image. as well as the raw stack if anyone wants to give a try at getting more details out of it!

Congratulations on your best image so far.
I downloaded your tif file. The noise in the red channel is by far the largest. I tried some tricks to reduce the red noise which helped. I used PixInsight to process the image. The result below has brought out some more color and maybe a little more detail. Hope you like it.

I did an edit of JUST the core. and heavily enhanced it. with mostly natural colors. it looks EXTREMELY EPIC!
I used mostly local contrast on it. and some star halo reduction and star reduction.
its upscaled about 2x

Applied local contrast and further "enhanced" my image. so it looks less flat and the core is more interesting.

I'm so happy with this result! I can't even imagine how good of a result I would get with 30 minutes or even an hour of exposure time!
if just 5 minutes can look this good at F6!
it would be truely incredibly amazing!
