30$ 70mm refractor doublet F6 420mm untracked orion nebula!

#1

Post by realflow100 »

I decided to try it just to see what I could get
I used 0.5 second exposures at a WHOPPING 25600 iso on my canon SL1/100D DSLR camera
I'm in approximately bortle 6 to 8. depending on conditions. and tonight seems to be around bortle 7-8 maybe a high bortle 7 or low bortle 8
And this is my result
I think this is my cleanest photo of orion nebula so far. sharpest edges and dust piller details.. even though its quite faint. you can see some small and faint stars.
Theres still a very tiny amount of trailing. a couple pixels worth. but I think its not too bad.
Cropped full scale picture. as well as an uncropped but downscaled version.
There was not much vignetting for me to even worry about. So I didn't even bother with flat frames at all.
big edit: Fixed the ugly greenish tint everywhere!

Geez, didn't realize you could set an ISO that high. Nice pics!

Thanks for all the compliments!
I think the only thing i'm lacking is more integration time.
Maybe if I got like 3000 photos and stacked them I could get more details. maybe even running man nebula would show up then!

I plan on sometime setting up my star tracker which is an alt-az goto type. and getting at least 5 seconds of exposure time per frame. then stacking at least 200 frames of those and seeing what result I can get! hopefully much sharper stars and a lot more faint details! :D

updated original post i removed a lot of the green tint in the background and greenish stars. fixed. more natural star colors.

I'm surprised DSS was even able to detect enough stars to align and stack with only half second exposures for each frame! phew!
