Polaris starfield at 70mm F6 420mm untracked

Post by realflow100 »

My edge stars look a little weird but I think overall its an ok start. Slight trailing in vertical direction. the knob must of been slightly slipping very slowly and gradually over time.
15 second exposures. 65 frames at iso 6400
taken with very cheap svbony 30$ 70mm F6 telescope and canon SL1/100D DSLR camera

Full moon. and occasional faint clouds/hazyness.

canon 50mm STM F1.8
svbony 8-24mm zoom eyepiece

What does anyone think so far?
I recently got some T2 extensions for my telescope focuser and camera T2 adapter. so now I can skip the 1.25" adapter. and get the full aperture. now I can maximize the amount of light I get out of my scope. and less vignetting!
Also much sturdier connection too. less wobble.
I'll have to do this picture again and see what the improvement is!

Also I'm super confused on what distance the baffling ring in the focuser should be? Fixed distance from the sensor? Or does it depend on the length of extensions I have for the T2 ring adapter?

Hi
It’s difficult to see whether the stars are round or as you say “trailing” because of resolution of image. You have got good color on the stars and focus seems good. Take some images with the new equipment and check it you see better stars. Good start, keep it up.
Thanks for sharing.

Diamond ring? Whats that? Is that just polaris?

Also I'm doing some new shots of 30 second exposures! This time no trailing! hurray! :D And perfect focus! and the optics dont seem shifted anymore either. I really spent a lot of time collimating the 2 lens elements. No more red aberration on the underside of stars!

I'm taking 25 minutes of exposure so far. I think I might do another 25 minutes if this is a success!
