North America & Pelican HOO with Increased Ha Data

#1

Post by STEVE333 »

Clear nights are few and far between, but, I was able to capture an additional 10 x 10 min of Ha data for this target. Adding to the previous 3 hr of Ha this yielded a total Ha time of 4 hr 40 min. I believe it improved the image but that is always subjective on my part. It appears to have brought out more details in the dark dust cloud.

IMAGE DETAILS
WO Star71 telescope, iOptron CEM40 mount, ASI1600MM camera (-15C), Chroma 3 nm Ha/O3 filters, StarShoot Autoguider
Acquisition with APT, Guiding with PHD2, Processing with PixInsight
Lights: 28 x 10 min Ha, 9 x 10 min O3 (Total Exposure time = 6 hr 10 min)

New Result (6 hr 10 min)
HOO_LRGB.jpg

Previous Result (4 hr 30 min)
Bicolor_LRGB.jpg
Thanks for looking. Comments always welcomed.

That's made a lot of difference Steve, and the 2nd process has improved the stars too. Funny we were doing the same target around the same time, except mine is a smaller FOV.

Carole

Thanks Carole. I also was happy with the improvement.
I finally realized that the differenc between your FOV and mine was attributable to the difference in sizes of our sensors. Yours is significantly smaller than mine. Now it all makes sense.

I'm hoping to get some S2 data to complete this image. It's been a bad summer here with few days suitable for AP because of clouds and/or fog.

Cheers - Steve

Steve,
Excellent images! I think the new image is an improvement over the first (but as you say, subjective on my part as well). I think the added Ha data brings out more of the dark. Just looking at the images though, it looks like the processing might have been different - Ha may have been less stretched, or mapped at a lower factor, or some Ha was mapped into green? The blue (OIII) portions look a little richer too.

Hi Jim - Thanks. The processing was a little different because I just reprocessed the new data. The only intentional change was to stretch the O3 a bit more before combining the HOO so that made the Blue more prominent. I combined it straight HOO without adding any Ha into the G channel. I tried that but didn't like the colors.

I'm hoping to get some S2 data to try SHO processing for this target. We'll see if the weather cooperates!?

Nice to hear from you. Hope all is well.

Cheers - Steve

Thanks for the processing information Steve.

I am doing well. Thanks for asking. I have been a bit quiet on the forum because I am working through a new mount setup.
