Iris Nebula NGC7023 and Gyulbudaghian's Nebula LBN468

#1

Post by carastro »

I spent last week in the Cotswold's in Gloucestershire with some other Astrophotographers - a sort of small star party. So I took the opportunity to get a broadband image I have been wanting to do for some some as it was Bortle 4.

It was quite difficult to process as I don't get enough practice with broadband, and the stars overwhelmed the Nebulosity, but after many hours processing I finally have something I feel I can present. I used my Samyang lens because of the wide field of view as doing a Mosaic would prove difficult due to lack of Bortle 4 opportunities and having to re-set up.
I stupidly forgot to put the cooling on (Gun to head!!).

Samyang lens 135mm @ f2.8 and Atik460EX and Baader LRGB filters.
Lum 23 x 600 (3hours 50mins)
RGB 14 x 150secs binned each filter (35m each) total 1 hour 45 mins
Total imaging time 5 hours 35mins

Image
Mount: HEQ5 + Polemaster
Guiding: SW Finderguider and QHY5
Scopes: Skywatcher ED80, Skywatcher ED120, William Optics ZS71, Samyang 135MM F2 lens,
Cameras: Atik460EX, Atik428EX, Canon 1100D
Filters: Baader

Guiding; SW Evoguide 50ED, ASI 120mm mini
Meade 8" LX200 GPS on wedge (Guided with a cheapo 50mm guidescope and a ZWO ASI 120mm mini)
Sharpstar 61EDPH II (with dedicated 0.8 reducer) with wiliam Optics 32mm uniguide
Camera: ASI2600MC pro. QHY 163M with ZWO 7nm NB filters, Canon EOS700D astro mod

Excellent dusty Iris Carole Great color.

Do you have a higher resolution image? Its really hard to see Gyulbudaghian's Neb (GM 1-29) at the posted image scale.

Really chuffed I was actually selected a Top Pick (as opposed to being shortlisted).
Received this from astrobin this evening:
Congratulations! Your image was voted Top Pick: Iris Nebula NGC7023 and Gyulbudaghian's Nebula LBN468

Only the 3rd Top Pick i have had in 10 years.
